When will "new technology" have a chance to succeed and eventually create value ? Goldratt, Ptak and Schragenheim explain it nicely in Chapter 12 [30 kB] of their novel "Necessary But Not Sufficient":
- the new technology has to break a constraint: something which is limiting us in our daily lives and which we have learned to overcome or bypass by shortcuts, policies and the like
however
- as soon as we introduce the new technology we have to change the policies/rules/shortcuts with which we compensated for the constraint in the past .
This is common sense however it does not mean that it is followed.
